An electric coobox will also have a label on it giving all the details you need to work out the amps. Despite being a decent-sized cool box (storage volume measures 63 x 51 x 42cm), the Eco Deep is portable enough to move around when required.

I feel more confident now, with your little chart, to use my ehu and know how to work out amp useage by dividing Watts by Volts. Compressor fridge – this is like your electric fridge at home which uses circulating refrigerant inside which expands to provide cooling. Also, check that a cigarette lighter socket lead is also included so you can run the cool box in your car when travelling to the destination.Quite frankly, few items are as important in a camp environment as having a top-performing electric cool box. This sleek little gadget has it all: from silent operation to the ability to cool or warm food in seconds. Luckily we tried both of them out at home before taking them camping - even with the coolbox in the next bedroom with a solid nine inch brick wall in between us and 'it', the noise still kept us awake.

I've run and installed every possible type of fridge over the years, mostly in boats in the Med and for my own use in Europe. Coolboxes are very inefficient and they can only cool so many degrees below ambient so if it's warm outside it'll be working even harder. SPACIOUS - Versatile, spacious and portable, this Hi-Gear Electric Cooler, with a generous 20 litre capacity, will keep your food and drink at the perfect temperature on long car journeys, staycations and camping trips. I've got a couple of Peltier/Thermoelectric coolboxes but these days they hardly ever get used, I've also got a 3 way camping fridge (also limited use on 12v due to power consumption) and a 12/240v compressor fridge (good on 12v), both of which truly are fridges, and tend to be my first choice. If I put two or three frozen meals (homemade chilli or Bolognese mince in those plastic boxes takeaways come in) they act as cooling and thaw over a day or two.For anyone with a sense of adventure, there is no better way of escaping mundane suburbia than by packing the camping gear into the car and setting off into the great beyond with the wind in your sails! It also comes with an integrated handle for easy transportation, making it ideal for long days in the great outdoors!

As mentioned, the carry handle is robust and will easily carry a fully laden box, but you wouldn’t want to carry it too far in this state – feels like it’s dragging your arm out of its socket! The insulation on Peltier/Thermoelectric coolboxes is generally not that good, only on a par with a so-so passive coolboxes, rather relying on the powered cooling to compensate. Their plus point is they can extend the life of Ice Packs quite considerably, as they to a degree compensate for the natural warming effect of ambient temps on the cool box.

Summertime is never far away, and the allure of camping in the beautiful British countryside starts to become almost irresistible. The coolers start at a ‘car-friendly’ 26 litre capacity up to our favourite in the range shown above – the 45 litre giant which has its own carry handle and wheels to help move it around. You can then quickly add up the amps you are using at any one time and make sure you don't overload the supply which on most campsites is a total of 10amps or on some campsites 16amps. All electrical equipment should have a label attached which gives the voltage (230v or 240v usually) and the watts. Compressor fridges (very expensive) rather than the cheap thermoelectric ones are much more efficient.
