About this deal
Since a downhill bike is ONLY intended to be ridden downhill, it does not need a large range. This is different from other 1x drivetrains.
Note: Weights and prices are for a single brake (ca liper, hose and lever, but no rotor or adaptor, unless otherwise stated). Also on test Hydraulic disc brake with a high, precisely metered braking force in the powerful design. Opposing pistons prevent vibrations. Natural mineral oil as hydraulic fluid, environmentally friendly and is neither toxic nor corrosive, in bicycle hydraulic braking systems, the optimal medium works dar.SLX M7100/M7120/M7130- same as Deore chainrings, but hollow crank arms, reducing weight to 630 grams Note that this is about weight; SLX is the ‘sweet spot’, but the cheapest option will work just as well. Most bikes are supplied with 32t chainrings, but there are 28t (XT only), 30t, 32t, 34t, 36t (XT/XTR only), 38t (XTR only) options that can be replaced easily. Stiff and lightweight 2-piece caliper with opposed pistons in two diameters to reduce pad wear and increases control
Hydraulic disc brakes are available from Shimano at low cost. This means you will find them on most MTB and hybrid bikes. Built for gravity-orientated and electric bikes, these four-piston Magura MT5 brakes provide heaps of power and easy modulation. Shimano's 4-piston Saint, Zee and XT disc brakes have been renowned for their phenomenal stopping power for years and now that incredible power comes to a new, lower price thanks to the MT501/MT520 Brakes.Overall braking power is important, but so too is the ease with which you’re able to access that power – if you have to squeeze the lever really hard, that’s likely to lead to arm pump. Brake ‘feel’ is another key aspect – it’s subjective, but some people like a really grabby feel, while others prefer the power to progressively build as you squeeze the lever. We also needed to work out just how powerful the brakes are, and how resistant to heat build-up. The four pistons push on a long pad that’s held in place with a threaded pin. There’s less power than SRAM’s Code brakes, but that isn’t too much of a surprise considering the small caliper body.
